It’s official, I have found a new awesome place to drink at Disney. Why has no one let me know about Dawa Bar before???? I mean, I knew it was there, I saw it whenever I walked by at Animal Kingdom. But, after having a beer or two, I can see myself drinking there on a regular basis while people watching. After looking at the brew menu, and already having Tusker and Bedele at Animal Kingdom Lodge, I wanted to [ Read More ]
I was recently out to dinner at a local Vietnamese restaurant and was pleasantly surprised to see that they had a decent selection of beers on the menu. “33″ Export immediately caught my eye. It’s a Vietnamese lager that has a nice bright gold color. I enjoyed the beer with a nice bowl of Pho, it was light enough to compliment the saltiness of the soup. It really wasn’t anything special though, it reminded me of Amstel Light. It’s not [ Read More ]
As I was composing a few other beer reviews (yay for multi-tasking!), I realized that I had never finished my review from awhile back of Lagunitas Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale! So let’s get this out of the way, shall we? After looking at the huge beer menu at the restaurant we were at in NYC, the Sumpin’ jumped out at me. First, I knew Katie was a huge Lagunitas fan so I kinda wanted to see what all the fuss [ Read More ]
It’s that time of year in America where we honor those who gave their lives serving this country in the Armed Forces. On this Memorial Day let’s take a look at the latest release from Saint Arnold, Homefront IPA. This beer’s story starts with Chris Ray; you might know him as a pitcher for the Seattle Mariners. He’s also a homebrewer. Chris came up with the Homefront IPA recipe and brought it to Matt Lincecum, owner of Fremont Brewing Company [ Read More ]
I had to give this beer a shot since I like Sierra Nevada Pale Ale so much, which recently won the Beers and Ears Walt Disney World Beer Tournament. I guess it also helps that this beer has a pretty wicked label, a label that perhaps should have been saved for some Halloween themed beer. Yeah, I really like the label’s design! Ultimately, I really liked this beer. I didn’t taste too much of a difference from the regular pale [ Read More ]
Five beers are served in the Mexico pavilion, and we’ve reviewed four of them. Tecate is the fifth, and it’s another beer brewed by Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma Brewery. Apparently the Mexico pavilion doesn’t feel the need to branch out to other Mexican breweries such as Grupo Modelo or something even more exotic. Tecate pours a very Bud Light-ish yellow color (yeah I said it) with a thin, white, quickly dissipating head. Smells like corn; have you figured out where this is going [ Read More ]
Oregon is ranked fourth nationally in craft breweries per capita and is a state known for beer-friendly laws. It’s no surprise, then, that many great craft breweries have been founded there. Among them is Rogue Ales, which started as a brewpub in Ashland, OR and has since expanded to a number of brewpubs in Oregon, Washington and California. One of their most popular brews is Dead Guy Ale. It was originally brewed for the Mayan Day of the Dead celebration [ Read More ]
American Craft Beer Week celebrates the small brewery. One of the newest breweries in the Houston area is Karbach Brewing Co. The owners, Chuck Robertson and Ken Goodman, sold their beer distribution business in order to start Karbach. The brewery is housed in the old beer distribution warehouse on Karbach Street in Houston, and they currently brew five different beers. Rodeo Clown Double IPA is one of their newer brews (well, newer as in it wasn’t one of the three [ Read More ]
Today begins American Craft Beer Week, a week-long celebration of the smaller, independent brewers in the United States. Restaurants, bars, and breweries all over the country will be having special events this week to celebrate. Since 1984, the Widmer Brothers have been brewing craft beer in Portland, Oregon. Two years later, the brothers released their Hefeweizen. Widmer refers to it as “the one that started it all”. Widmer was brewing a Weizenbier along with an Altbier when they first started [ Read More ]
Samuel Adams Griffin’s Bow is part of a series of limited release beers from the Boston Beer Company. The local grocery store had a bunch of the limited release beers in stock so I picked a couple up. Griffin’s Bow is an oaked blonde barleywine. Toasted oak was put into the beer when it aged to add the wooden flavor. The nose reminds me more of an IPA than a barleywine with floral and fruit notes. Color is somewhat copper, [ Read More ]
