Great Lakes Christmas Ale

November 13th, 2012 by in Other Beer Reviews

Christmas!

Ale.

Great Lakes Christmas Ale to be exact. I reviewed another seasonal holiday ale here. And this is my other favorite.

Let me tell you a story about this ale.

One year for Christmas Eve (the major celebration day in our family), I decided to be a tiny little domestic goddess and do Christmas Eve all on my own. Picture me in a little Santa apron bustling around the kitchen humming Rudolph. Sure. Meatballs in the crockpot, cheese and crackers out… and then I thought “hmm, just one Christmas Ale..”

Two.

Three.

I. Passed. Out. And. Slept. Through. Christmas.

Bravo domestic goddess. Bravo.

Great Lakes Christmas Ale comes from one of my favorite breweries Great Lakes Brewing Company in Cleveland.

Christmas Ale is seasonal only in November and December. It is filled with honey, spice, ginger, cinnamon and probably holy water. I’m not sure.

Stats:

ABV: 7.5%

IBU: 30

ABW: 6.0%

This beer is NOT readily available. Our local Harris Teeters (worst name) were stocked and now they are gone. Done. “Dunzo” as Kristin Cavallari from Laguna Beach says. iSad.

Which is sad because this is my favorite beer to drink while dancing around my bedroom in my fluffy pink robe..

…and no I’m not posting a picture of that you creeps.

So rush out to your local grocery store and see if you can find this gem. Sit by the tree, watch  A Christmas Story and don’t shoot your eye out!

And also this..

Hahahahahahahahha…. ah… Christmas. <3

I got some of this beer last year from my parents who live in Cleveland and I still have one bottle left over (yes, a whole year later) because I’m not a fan. I’ve been using it for cooking just to get rid of it. I think we have better local, seasonal microbrews around here.

Just came out in Ohio last week. I saw a store limiting sales to one 6-pack. Last year it sold out in about 3 days. Advice: If you see it, buy it! Awesome stuff.
