Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout

A not-so-secret thing about me: I don’t like coffee. It smells just fine to me but once I taste it, yuck.

Needless to say, I don’t frequent Starbucks.

However, I don’t usually have a problem with beers that taste like coffee as long as the coffee flavor isn’t overwhelming. Thus, I’m trying Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout.

You also may remember that Katie hated this last year. I forgot all about it, texted her, and she went berserk all over again.

Lagunitas made this a strong one; it’s 9.2% ABV. It’s also brewed with Hard Core Coffee, which I’m assuming comes from a place called Hard Core Espresso in California.

This is a seasonal beer; it usually comes out in November. It doesn’t seem to be especially rare, however. I grabbed a bottle on a whim one day.

Deep dark brown to black with a tan head. Looks like coffee. Smells like coffee, dark chocolate. Definite coffee flavor but not overpowering. Some sweetness also comes through to balance out. No alcohol flavor to speak of despite the higher ABV. Low carbonation, drinks smooth. A nice beer to sip on.

Finally, here’s the Cappuccino Stout page on Lagunitas’ newly refreshed web site. It’s a lot nicer than the old site so check it out.
