Stella Artois Cidre

IMG_0246InBev decided to expand the Stella Artois line by adding a cider, or "Cidre". I guess that's supposed to make it sound fancy. The bottle also claims that it's made with hand-picked apples. Is it? Who knows.

I picked up this bomber (24 ounces) of Cidre for around $6.00 at the store. At the 2014 Epcot Food and Wine Festival's Belgium booth, you can get 6 ounces of Cidre for $3.50. We've already discussed the various economics in the Dogfish Head Punkin article, but the cost differential is worth mentioning again.

Cidre is 4.5% ABV, but many ciders aren't very high in alcohol content.

Smells like apples (surprise!) and maybe a bit of wheat. Golden, a little darker thanĀ a white wine in color. Prickly carbonation and sweet and tart apple flavor with a dry finish. It's a one note song, but I didn't think it would be as good as it is. But "not bad" is the best praise I can give it. My biggest issue is that after a while the sweetness gets a bit overpowering.

It's simple, it's better than I expected it to be, but it's not worth the $6 Disney wants to charge you at Food and Wine. If you must try this on property, Todd English's bluezoo will probably give you a full serving for just a bit more than the Food and Wine Festival's price. Or if you really love Stella, Leffe Blonde, and Hoegaarden, pick up a flight and try the Cidre in the flight.
