Real Ale Sisyphus 2008 and 2010

A couple of weeks ago, Lindsay, Jackie, and I took a trip to the Flying Saucer to complete our portions of a project coming soon to Beers and Ears. After doing so, we all decided to have one more; I chose Sisyphus 2008 by Real Ale Brewing Co. in Blanco, TX. This 10% ABV beer had been sitting in a cellar for two years before being served; I was interested to see how it tasted. It was excellent; a very smooth but flavorful barleywine with a bit of a chocolate taste.

Fast-forward to a few days ago; I was in Spec's looking for something new to drink. While I was examining a Real Ale sampler pack I saw bottles of Sisyphus 2010. I grabbed one in order to taste the difference two years made. The 2010 bottle had a bite to it on the front end, but was still full of flavor. 2010 had less of a chocolate taste, but there was still a bit of sweetness to it. Sisyphus is a seasonal brew that comes out in the winter; the current production run's supply is winding down until it comes out again in the winter of 2011.
