This article started as a review of Weedwacker; however, Weedwacker and Fancy Lawnmower share the same formula except for the yeast used. Having not tasted Lawnmower either, this has turned into a double-fisted review; Lawnmower in one hand and Weedwacker in the other.



Let's start with Fancy Lawnmower, a Kölsch-style beer. It's golden, crystal clear, and a bit sweet and malty. Overall, it's a pleasant beer to drink but nothing extraordinary.



I'm also drinking Weedwacker. This beer is the first in Saint Arnold's Moveable Yeast series, where the usual Saint Arnold yeast is substituted for a different one. Here we are looking at Lawnmower with a Belgian hefeweizen yeast. The beer is still gold but a different shade and cloudy. The yeast certainly imparts more of a wheat taste to the beer. It's different than Lawnmower despite using all the same ingredients except the yeast. It's still good, but again, nothing extraordinary in my opinion.

What we have here are two enjoyable beers. Fancy Lawnmower and Weedwacker are good and refreshing for a hot day. The yeast certainly makes a difference in the taste, but in the end I find that I don't have much of a preference between the two. Saint Arnold has a good concept on their hands with the Moveable Yeast series. Hopefully some of the other experiments make more of a positive change rather than a neutral one.
