Uva Bar Beers and Bites

Better late than never, right?  While Scott is enjoying his adventures in Walt Disney World this week, I figured it was time to finally write up a beer review.

Patrick and I headed out to Disneyland for the Half Marathon last September and continued our annual tradition (all two years so far) to stop for a drink and some grub at Uva Bar in Downtown Disney.  I mean, you NEED a full stomach to run around the parks, right?  And honestly?  This might be one of my favorite places on property.  I'm already planning on stopping by there again this year!

Doing our Beers and Ears duty, we both ordered a beer sampler so we can taste most of their drafts. The bartender messed up our order a bit and we ended up with a few dupes but we didn't complain too much.

My favorite out of all of them was hands down the Tangerine Wheat. SO GOOD!  I think Pat's favorite was the Firestone.

From our tasting notes way back when...this is seriously how we review beers on our phones when we take notes... :)  I apologize that the reviews aren't wordier.  We have to work on our note taking for next time.  (Or I just have to write these reviews much sooner so I remember them!)  I think the morning of traveling and heading right to the bar when we landed played a part in the short descriptions.

Bootlegger's UVA Pilsner - Good!

Firestone Double Barrel - Pat's fave so far, Jenn approves

Green Flash Hop Head Red - meh.  Too hoppy for our liking.

Lost Coast Tangerine Wheat - Woah tangerine!  Love!  Winner winner chicken dinner?

North Coast Blue Star Wheat - Just OK

Stone IPA - Tastes like feet.  Yup, feet.  (Remember...Pat and I are both not fans of IPA's)

While there were two that we weren't fans of, we really did enjoy all the others, and LOVED two of them.  And the options are always changing so you never know what you'll get when you go!

I know this is a beer blog and all but I seriously need to talk about the food.   I think I could easily live off of these corn arepas for the rest of my life if need be. The pork was perfectly marinated and went amazing with the arepa, peppers, avocado, and mojo sauce.

Another surprising winner? The shishito peppers! I had no idea what to expect when we got them but the bartender said people rave about them and they're addicting like potato chips. She wasn't kidding. They weren't spicy really but had a great smokey flavor and the salt and garlic emulsion was a perfect compliment. I just started salivating thinking about this meal.

The guac was also really good but paled in comparison to the other two options.

So seriously, next time you guys are in Cali, stop at Uva for a few brews and some grub.  I'm already counting down the days until we go back!
