North Coast Brewing Co. Brother Thelonious

IMG_5460

Brother Thelonious is named after Thelonious Monk, one of the greatest jazz pianists; let’s set the mood appropriately. North Coast Brewing Company, from Fort Bragg, CA, brews Brother Thelonious as part of their American Artisan series. And holy crap, what a beer to brew in honor of a great jazz pianist. Furthermore, a donation to the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz is made for each bottle of Brother Thelonious sold. To me, a lover of jazz and musician, that’s pretty  [ Read More ]

New Belgium Brewing Abbey Belgian Style Ale

Pleasantly surprised with this one from New Belgium Brewing. A nice smoky flavor that goes down pretty smooth. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this as much as I did last night. Definitely a beer I will drink again.

St. Bernardus Pater 6

Presenting the fourth and final beer from the St. Bernardus four-pack: Pater 6. I wanted to drink this a lot sooner but I haven’t been feeling great this week. It’s another good one, but this one ranks third out of the four St. Bernardus beers. Abt 12 was my favorite, followed by Prior 8, Pater 6, and the Tripel was my least favorite.

St. Bernardus Tripel

St. Bernardus Tripel

Tonight I’m having the third of the St. Bernardus four-pack.  It’s their Tripel, and it’s definitely the weakest of the three so far in my opinion.  I also preferred the Petrus Tripel from New Year’s Eve to this one despite Petrus’ extreme foaminess. One more St. Bernardus beer to go!

St. Bernardus Abt 12

St. Bernardus Abt 12

It’s shaping up to be a St. Bernardus week here.  Tonight’s brew is Abt 12, and it’s dark and delicious.  A wonderful beer to sip while you watch your wife’s new Roomba vacuum (that’s what I did).  Abt 12 has a wheat-like scent and a great taste; sweet, bitter and a bit of an alcoholic bite. The Christmas tree will be coming down soon; I’m going to need to find a new background for my photos.

St. Bernardus Prior 8

St. Bernardus Prior 8

Today after work I picked up a sampler four-pack of St. Bernardus beers; the pack also included a St. Bernardus trappist glass.  First up from this sampler pack is Prior 8.  It’s an excellent brew with a bit of a sweet taste and very drinkable with an 8% alcohol content.  Just what I need after a rough day.  Expect the rest of the four-pack to appear here in the near future.
