St. John’s Brewers: Tropical Mango Ale

June 22nd, 2011 by in Other Beer Reviews

Summer is officially here and what better way to beat the heat then with an ice cold beer.  Like most people, I spend a good amount of time outside during the summer months.  Due to the heat and a variety of other reasons, I tend to shy away from big full-bodied beers.  Instead, I’m constantly searching for great “Fruit” beers but they aren’t very popular and good ones are hard to come by.

For today’s post I’ll  be reviewing a Mango beer from a unique brewery called St. Johns Brewers.  If you haven’t figured it out yet, St. Johns brewery is located on the lovely Virgin Island of St. John.  Two old college buddies quit their lucrative jobs to live on the island.  Within months they realized there wasn’t any good beer on the island so they decided to make their own.  I highly recommend visiting their website to read more about their amazing journey because it’s pretty impressive.

Tropical Mango Ale

Appearance – Your typical light beer. Clear/light orangish gold.

Smell – Amazingly fresh and fruity.  Overwhelming scent of Mangos

Mouth feel – Very carbonated, light, and easy to drink

Drinkability – Very light with great fruit flavor.  Not my favorite go to everyday beer but for a summer cookout or a concert tailgate, I could drink this beer all afternoon with ease.

Overall – Unlike most fruit beers this beer actually tastes like the fruit that it’s brewed with.  In my opinion St. John’s Tropic Mango Ale absolutely delivers a pleasant “fruit beer” drinking experience beginning to end.

Cheers,

Kyle

Oooh! Sounds great! I’ll be looking for this one on my next beer run.

Have you tried Ithaca Apricot Wheat, Sea Dog Apricot, or RJ Rocker’s Son of a Peach? I’d definitely recommend giving all 3 a try.

St John is one of my favorite places to visit. I’ll have to try their beer and plan a trip to tour the brewery.
