Real Ale Full Moon Pale Rye Ale
Full Moon Pale Rye Ale is the third and final beer in the Real Ale sampler pack. Unexpectedly, this tastes more like an IPA than a pale ale. Spicy hops coupled with a bready rye taste make this a nice beer to drink. I enjoyed this much more than the Rio Blanco Pale Ale I… → Read More
Real Ale Rio Blanco Pale Ale
Tonight I’m drinking the second of three beers in the Real Ale sampler: Rio Blanco Pale Ale. Smooth, kinda light, the flavor is a bit lacking though. Drinkable, but nowhere near something like a Widmer Drifter. A bit disappointed with the White River.
Heavy Seas Classic Lager
When in Maryland….this is a tasty Baltimore label. Smooth drink…not too hoppy. I’d definitely pick this up again.
Real Ale Brewhouse Brown Ale
No Irish beer tonight unfortunately but I am drinking from an Irish glass (my parents got a pair of them for me when they visited Ireland). Instead I present Brewhouse Brown Ale, the first of three Real Ale brews from the sampler pack I mentioned in the Sisyphus article. I sometimes use Abita beers as… → Read More
Samuel Adams – Irish Red
On this St. Patrick’s Day I had hoped I had a left over Harp in the fridge. No go. BUT…I did have an Irish Red waiting to celebrate the day. It’s a malty ale with a caramel flavor to it.
Real Ale Sisyphus 2008 and 2010
A couple of weeks ago, Lindsay, Jackie, and I took a trip to the Flying Saucer to complete our portions of a project coming soon to Beers and Ears. After doing so, we all decided to have one more; I chose Sisyphus 2008 by Real Ale Brewing Co. in Blanco, TX. This 10% ABV beer… → Read More
Abita SOS Pilsner
This 1 pint, 6 oz beer is labeled as “Save Our Shore – A Charitable Pilsner” and $.15 from the sale of every bottle goes to “the rescue and restoration of the environment, industry, and individuals fighting to survive this disastrous oil spill.” Being from the south, I felt it was my duty to… → Read More
Stone Ruination IPA
I had this a week or so ago but hadn’t posted it yet. Quite honestly, Stone overdid it here. This beer is bitter, bitter and more bitter. The hoppy taste lingers seemingly forever. I didn’t find anything in the beer that balanced the extreme bitter taste. To me there’s much better tasting IPAs out there.
BrewDog 5 A.M. Saint
Tonight I’m enjoying a beer called 5 A.M. Saint from a small Scottish brewery known as BrewDog. The bottle refers to the beer as an “iconoclastic amber ale”, meaning that it is trying to destroy established conventions in the beer industry. The side of the label can best be described as a rant against the… → Read More
