Goose Island Honker's Ale

Goose Island Honker’s Ale

Another sampling from the great city of Chicago.  Previously posted by Ed, this is a Honker’s Ale, brewed by Goose Island Beer Co.  (Chicago, IL).  In their own words Honker’s Ale is “an English style bitter that strikes perfect balance between fruity hop notes and biscuity malt flavor, Honker’s Ale delivers a classic taste in… → Read More

Warsteiner, Blue Moon, Strongbow and Longboard

Tonight’s selections from the Taco Mac? I began with a Warsteiner, a fine lager with a hint of bitter, while the wife stuck with Ol’ Reliable, her favorite Blue Moon. Second? She decided on a Strongbow Cider. Me? I went with a longtime fave from the Tambu Lounge at the Polynesian – Longboard! It’s a… → Read More

Abita Restoration Pale Ale

Abita Restoration Pale Ale holds a special place in my heart.  It’s a good beer but the reason behind it is even better.  In 2005 Hurricanes Katrina and Rita barreled into the southeast and southwest coasts of Louisiana respectively.  With this beer, Abita raised over $500,000 for hurricane relief.  Since then it’s become a regularly… → Read More

Goose Island – Honker’s Ale

This is a beer from a brewery in Chicago. I really enjoyed this beer as it had great flavor and wasn’t bitter. I’ve never had a Goose Island beer and won’t hesitate to try another based on the flavor and experience from this one. I highly recommend this beer if you’re able to find it… → Read More

St. Bernardus Pater 6

Presenting the fourth and final beer from the St. Bernardus four-pack: Pater 6. I wanted to drink this a lot sooner but I haven’t been feeling great this week. It’s another good one, but this one ranks third out of the four St. Bernardus beers. Abt 12 was my favorite, followed by Prior 8, Pater… → Read More

Abita Jockamo IPA

Since LSU is playing in the Cotton Bowl tonight I held off from drinking the last St. Bernardus and instead picked up a Jockamo IPA from Abita.  The name is based on a song called “Iko Iko” about two “tribes” of Mardi Gras Indians.  “Iko Iko” has been played by many bands but The Dixie… → Read More

Hofbräu Hefe Weizen for the Win!

I’ve always wanted to try a hofbräuhaus beer and I finally got to tonight. I wasn’t disappointed. Anybody that knows me knows that I’m a big fan of hefe weizen. This is one of my favorites. It’s a pretty sweet beer and no bad after taste. It was actually kind of refreshing! I can’t wait… → Read More

St. Bernardus Tripel

Tonight I’m having the third of the St. Bernardus four-pack.  It’s their Tripel, and it’s definitely the weakest of the three so far in my opinion.  I also preferred the Petrus Tripel from New Year’s Eve to this one despite Petrus’ extreme foaminess. One more St. Bernardus beer to go!

St. Bernardus Abt 12

It’s shaping up to be a St. Bernardus week here.  Tonight’s brew is Abt 12, and it’s dark and delicious.  A wonderful beer to sip while you watch your wife’s new Roomba vacuum (that’s what I did).  Abt 12 has a wheat-like scent and a great taste; sweet, bitter and a bit of an alcoholic… → Read More

Ayinger Oktober Fest-Märzen

Saw this in the refrigerator at Total Wine and was really hoping it would taste similar to Sam Adams Oktoberfest. I was let down. This isn’t one of my favorites.
