Victory HopDevil IPA

Yesterday Google had their I/O conference keynote and at the end (in addition to smartwatches) they handed out a kit called Cardboard. It’s a cardboard kit designed to turn your Android phone into a virtual reality headset. But I’m looking at this thing and all I can think is they made Tool’s 10,000 Days album into a sort of headset.
Fortunately, I have this album and decided to give it a shot.
My daughter in the bottom left corner thought this was quite funny.
It’s definitely not perfect, but it worked and I could see the 3D effect. The lenses in the CD case weren’t made for this and the Nexus 7 tablet (the only Android device I have) wasn’t on their supported list either, but just to get a taste of what it could do I tried it out.
I digress…
Let’s talk about the devil.

Victory Brewing, known around these parts for their delicious Golden Monkey tripel, brews this IPA.
Light citrus and grass scent from a copper colored liquid and white head. Flavor from the beer is also somewhat light; I’m starting to wonder how long this bottle was on the shelf. Grass, pine, orange, and a malty sweetness all mingle on the tongue. Despite its lightness it’s still a fairly good beer. Carbonation is still fairly active and the bitterness from the hops lingers on the tongue a while.
HopDevil’s a decent IPA and probably better if it’s fresher. However, it’s not as good as Victory Golden Monkey in my opinion, and Golden Monkey is more easily found at Walt Disney World. If you’re looking for a different IPA at Disney World, Cabana Bar at the Dolphin serves this one.

I do not think they brew this beer any longer as they announced it was being replaced for the time being by a few other IPAs they brew. I am sure Disney still has some laying around but they might not be the freshest beers.

I see an article from August 2013 about DirtWolf Double IPA replacing HopWallop, but nothing about HopDevil. Perhaps that’s what you were thinking of?

I’m a big fan of the Victory labels; in my opinion Victory DirtWolf & Headwaters are both better than Hop Devil.
