Newcastle Brown Ale

Newcastle Brown ale falls into the Norther English Brown ale style of beers. This style is usually made from a English mild or a pale ale base malt, with caramel malts added for color and flavor. Some styles do add a darker malt for distinct flavor character. If it doesn’t have English hop varieties than I doubt it would be a true English ale.

Newcastle

True British ale

Newcastle’s Brown ale is one of my favorite British beers. The one thing I would like to mention is that if you are looking to enjoy this beer then make sure you acquire it from a well respected store that is known for short turn over of their stock. The reason I mention this if you haven’t guessed is that it’s packaged in a clear glass bottle. This can cause the hop oils to turn skunky if the bottle is improperly handled.

With that being said I still prefer to enjoy this when it’s available on tap. When you’re at Raglan Road check and see if you are able to enjoy this straight off the draught. Then compare this to a bottle version, you should notice slight differences but they are both still extremely drinkable.

I won’t go into a full break down on this review, but I will say this is one of my favorites and that is due to the rich sweet caramel flavors you will find in this beer. The one thing that I did notice while drinking this beer was the slight watery flavor along with a slick oily mouthfeel. Now don’t think I’m saying that’s a negative aspect to this tasting, it was a definite character to this beer and didn’t take away from my enjoyment.

On that note, have a good night and enjoy your next Newcastle and let me know what you think of it.
