Abita Strawberry Harvest Lager

August 21st, 2013 by in Other Beer Reviews

Thank you Whole Foods for allowing the ‘Create Your Own’ 6-pack.  There’s always a bunch of beers I want to try but don’t want a full 6-pack, ya know?

During the peak of summer, I’m always looking for something refreshing.  Enter the Abita Strawberry Harvest Lager.  Scott had reviewed this back in 2011 and was a little put off by the musty scent.  Luckily mine wasn’t as musty, but it was…different.

From their site….Abita Strawberry Harvest is a lager brewed with pilsner and wheat malts and Vanguard hops. Real Louisiana strawberry juice is added after filtration resulting in a crisp lager with a sweet strawberry flavor, aroma and haze.

Torn about if I enjoyed this one.  Very strong strawberry smell (almost like those Strawberry Shortcake dolls from way back when that are completely artificially scented???).  The strawberry taste though is completely different than what it smells like.  It reminded me of something but I couldn’t place my finger on it.  Then? I realized!  It reminds me of Lucky Charms marshmallows. Yeah, I don’t know where that came from…but it does.

Easy drink, refreshing. After one or two though I’d be ready for something different.
