Abita Grapefruit Harvest IPA

Abita Grapefruit Harvest IPA

Grapefruit.

If someone were to ask me what Disney Parks fans’ favorite fruit is, I’d have to say grapefruit. Schöfferhofer Grapefruit, the half beer, half grapefruit juice blend, is consistently one of the most accessed beers on the site.

Grapefruit Harvest Full BottleWinter is here, but fortunately winter brings another grapefruit beer. Abita Grapefruit Harvest IPA is part of the rotating Abita Harvest Series which can be found at several bars and lounges around Walt Disney World for the next few months. In the spring, Grapefruit IPA will be replaced by Abita Strawberry Harvest Lager.

However, Abita Grapefruit IPA is no Schöfferhofer Grapefruit. Instead of half beer, half grapefruit juice, Abita took Louisiana grapefruits and put them into the brew kettle. It’s a full beer and fairly potent at 6.0% ABV.

Grapefruit IPA is a cloudy light orange color with a decent head. Hops and citrus fill the nose, and the taste is similar. The grapefruit taste really comes out when the beer warms up a bit; I had a bit of trouble finding it at first but it comes out better when the beer isn’t fresh out the refrigerator.

If you enjoy an IPA, grab this one while you can; in addition to Disney World, Grapefruit IPA should be seeing a fairly wide release. On the other hand, if you enjoy Schöfferhofer Grapefruit because of its grapefruit juice content rather than its beer content, you may want to skip this one.

With that, I leave you with the best use of Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” I’ve ever seen.
