Today begins American Craft Beer Week, a week-long celebration of the smaller, independent brewers in the United States. Restaurants, bars, and breweries all over the country will be having special events this week to celebrate. Since 1984, the Widmer Brothers have been brewing craft beer in Portland, Oregon. Shiner Hefeweizen

Ed reviewed Shiner Hefeweizen (originally called Honey Wheat) back in December and loved it. Since it’s part of the Shiner Family Reunion, now it’s my turn to try this one. This article started as a review of Weedwacker; however, Weedwacker and Fancy Lawnmower share the same formula except for the yeast used. Having not tasted Lawnmower either, this has turned into a double-fisted review; Lawnmower in one hand and Weedwacker in the other. Let’s start with Fancy Lawnmower, a Kölsch-style beer. Hofbräu Hefe Weizen for the Win!

I’ve always wanted to try a hofbräuhaus beer and I finally got to tonight. I wasn’t disappointed. Anybody that knows me knows that I’m a big fan of hefe weizen. This is one of my favorites. It’s a pretty sweet beer and no bad after taste. It was actually kind of refreshing! I can’t wait to have another!

I might be able to officially proclaim this as my new favorite beer!  I’m a sucker for a GOOD German Weiss beer and this was fabulous.  A little spicy kick but still sweet.  Swore I tasted apricot but it’s just the yummy wheat Coming from the World’s Oldest Brewery, I’m guessing they know a thing or two about beer… Must go get a 6 pack…

Shiner Hefeweizen – a 10!

Wow! I tried this beer at dinner and it blew me away! I LOVED it! If you like Blue Moon, you need to find and taste this beer! I’ll be going back to the restaurant we went to tonight specifically because of this beer! woot!
