Unibroue Éphémère (Apple)
This brew is one of Ed‘s and @KimberKnight‘s favorites; Unibroue Éphémère. The word éphémère means ephemeral in French. Dictionary.com defines ephemeral as “lasting a very short time”. Something I did not know prior to writing this is that Éphémère is actually a series of beers whose fruit content changes with the season. The one I have here is apple, the most popular version. There have also been cranberry, blackcurrant, peach, and raspberry varieties. Apple is the only one sold year-round, and also the only one available in the States. Perhaps @deefordisney can get us some of the others?
The taste of Éphémère reminds me a bit of La Fin du Monde but weaker. However, Éphémère has the distinct smell and flavor of Granny Smith apples. It’s quite good, although I think I prefer La Fin du Monde by a small margin. Still, there’s no doubt in my mind that this beer is worth trying. Another excellent one from Unibroue.
Once again, Unibroue has an incredible website; check out their page on Éphémère complete with videos!
By the way, Wikipedia tells us that Unibroue’s beers are bottled “on the lees”. This means yeast sediment is bottled with the beer, which allows fermentation to continue inside the bottle.
