Dogfish Head Noble Rot is a saison-like beer that was one of Dogfish Head’s experiments. Two types of grape must, the freshly pressed grape juice normally used for wine making, were used in brewing this beer. First, viognier grape must must infected with botrytis, the “noble rot” itself, is sometimes used for dessert wines. The second must came from pinot gris grapes. Both of the grapes used are white wine grapes, which is evident in this beer. It’s a 9.0% ABV [ Read More ]
Leffe Blonde, Leffe Brune, Hoegaarden, and Stella Artois. Seemingly a varied selection of beers for the 2012 Epcot Food and Wine Festival’s Belgium booth. While they all are Belgian beers, they are also all owned by AB-InBev. While I have nothing against these particular beers, I also feel like Disney didn’t really try; they just called up the AB-InBev distributor and said “Give us some Belgian beers.” Belgium has a long and storied brewing history; it is home of six [ Read More ]
Blue Moon is possibly the most controversial beer at the 2011 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival. Why the controversy? The Craft Beer Collection is featuring Blue Moon as one of its eight craft beers; however, the Blue Moon Brewing Company is a part of the Molson Coors conglomerate. Blue Moon was first brewed at the Sandlot, sort of a brewpub for the Blue Moon Brewing Company at Coors Field in Denver. Originally called Bellyslide Belgian Wheat, Blue Moon became [ Read More ]
Stopped by one of my favorite BBQ places in NYC and wanted something light and refreshing to wash down the grub. Had heard of Southampton Publick House since they’re out of Long Island so I decided to give it a try. From their website… Southampton Double White is a truly special brew and a Southampton original. It’s a stronger version of the classic Belgian white ale style. White Ales (or Witbiers) are called white because their light color and cloudy [ Read More ]
I was visiting family over the Fourth of July weekend, and while looking through the local grocery store’s beer I happened to see one Lindsey Weeramuni suggested to us on Twitter a couple of weeks ago. Coney Island Albino Python is brewed by the Shmaltz Brewing Company in Saratoga Springs, NY. It’s described as a white lager with spices. This white lager is smooth with some spices in the flavor whose flavor I can’t quite place. It’s pleasant enough to [ Read More ]
“Live life unfiltered.” That’s the Shock Top slogan, and it’s easy to see why. This Belgian white ale is a cloudy yellow-orange because it’s not filtered before bottling. The brew is made by the Shock Top Brewing Company in Memphis, Tennessee, but further research shows that Shock Top is a subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch. Let’s judge the beer by its flavor instead of its affiliations though. The first smell of Shock Top reveals a light citrus flavor, which corresponds to the taste rather [ Read More ]
I bought another pick 6 from the grocery store, and Samuel Adams Imperial White is the first brew out of the pack. Wow, this beer delivers a kick in the teeth! It has a strong citrus taste with a alcoholic bite. This is quite a sweet beer and lacks a hoppy bitterness though. It’s also a bit syrupy; the label claims it has a bigger mouthfeel and it certainly does. In my admittedly limited Samuel Adams experience, this is one [ Read More ]
We stopped at a local beer & wine shop in Maryland and saw this car. Not only was it my favorite color; it even has a tap built in! Shock Top beer is great too!
It’s really good!
