The 2015 Disney Beer Tournament – First Round
March 16th, 2015 by The Beers and Ears Crew in Beer Culture
Note: The first round is now closed! Please vote in the fifth round of the 2015 Disney Beer Tournament!
March Madness is back! No, not the basketball tournament. The fourth edition of the Disney Beer Tournament is here with a fresh field of 64 beers battling it out until we have a new champion!
As usual, previous Disney Beer Tournament champions have been retired; last year’s winner Cigar City Jai Alai IPA, 2013’s Unibroue La Fin Du Monde, and 2012’s Sierra Nevada Pale Ale are all ineligible so we can be sure to have a new winner. All other beers from the Walt Disney World Beer List, the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival Beer List, and the Disneyland Resort Beer List in 2014 are eligible. From over 300 beers we narrowed it down to a field of 64 based on the number of views, past tournament performance, and a bit of subjectivity (just like the basketball tournament).
Here’s the full bracket! Click to enlarge.
Rounds will begin on Mondays and Thursdays for the next three weeks. The first round begins today and runs through Wednesday, March 19, 2015 at 6:00 PM Central Daylight Time. We’re using Polar polls again as they went over very well last year. It also cuts down on scrolling through poll after poll as they can be grouped into sets.
First up is the Mickey region. Will #teamgrapefruit show up again for the #1 overall seed Schöfferhofer Grapefruit? Can the Japan pavilion’s only good beer, Ginga Kogen, make a run as a 14 seed? These stories and more will unfold in the Mickey region!
Vote for the Mickey region now!
Second is the Minnie region. Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA holds the top seed here, while Ommegang Three Philosophers was somewhat slighted by the committee with a 12 seed after making it to the championship round last year! Boulevard Tank 7 and Stone Arrogant Bastard also make appearances in this region.
Here’s your chance to vote in the Minnie region!
The third region is the Donald region. Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA is the #1 seed after reaching the Final Four last year. It could eventually face its younger brother 60 Minute IPA if the six seed can make it far. Duvel is a sleeper pick here at the 15 seed.
Place your votes for the Donald region!
Finally, let’s see the Goofy region. Unibroue Trois Pistoles, a favorite from the Canada pavilion, is the number one seed here. Cigar City’s only entry in the tournament is three seed Maduro Brown Ale. Ballast Point Sculpin IPA makes its first appearance in the tournament as a two seed here, and twelve seed Unibroue Cherry Éphémère might be able to make a run for the championship!
It’s time to vote for who moves on in the Goofy region!
As a reminder, the first round ends Wednesday, March 19, 2015 at 6:00 PM Central Daylight Time. Be sure to place your votes before then; the second round will be posted Thursday morning!

You are killing me with making Innis & Gunn Rum Finished a sixteen seed….it is one of the best beers on property and pretty difficult to find in eastern US.
Ian stringer
innes and gunn is a perfectly good beer but by no means exceptional and I’m not sure where you live in the east but there are piles of every kind that they make on the shelves of beer stores near me . In Rhode Island and mass really easy to find.

I guess I was referring to other 99% of the east coast…was just hoping it would stick around longer than the first round as it a much better beer than several other higher seeds
