Samuel Adams Merry Mischief

IMG_5128

Mischief. It’s one of those crazy English words that looks like it should be pronounced “mis-cheef”, but it’s not. Merry Mischief is a gingerbread stout by Samuel Adams and is one of their small batch creations. This particular bottle is from batch #1. Merry Mischief is also the name of an “acoustic traditional duo“. There was also this video on YouTube from Norway in World Showcase at Christmas time. This duo is the Holiday Storytellers from Norway. The Santa-looking guy  [ Read More ]

Samuel Adams Summer Ale

IMG_1625

The summer seasonal from the Boston Beer Company is Samuel Adams Summer Ale. Referred to as an American wheat ale, its inspiration comes from Belgian witbiers (think Hoegaarden). Samuel Adams’ twist on the style includes lemon peel and Grains of Paradise. Summer Ale has a hazy golden color with a nose full of grain. Malty grain flavor with a lemon citrus tang and just the slightest bit of spice. Lots of carbonation. It’s a good beer to have a bunch  [ Read More ]

The Beer of Epcot International Food and Wine Festival 2012

IMG_9385

The menus are out and the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival Beer List is updated (along with a brand new app). Let’s chat about what’s on the list. Last year I wrote a huge article detailing every beer at every location. This year I’m going to cut it down a bit and talk about the changes; a lot of the beers, especially at booths like Mexico and China, have the same exact boring selection. The majority of Brewer’s Collection  [ Read More ]

Samuel Adams Griffin’s Bow

IMG_3061

Samuel Adams Griffin’s Bow is part of a series of limited release beers from the Boston Beer Company. The local grocery store had a bunch of the limited release beers in stock so I picked a couple up. Griffin’s Bow is an oaked blonde barleywine. Toasted oak was put into the beer when it aged to add the wooden flavor. The nose reminds me more of an IPA than a barleywine with floral and fruit notes. Color is somewhat copper,  [ Read More ]

Samuel Adams Chocolate Bock

Next beer in the winter sampler was the Chocolate Bock. This one was different but I liked it! After my first sip, I immediately said it tasted exactly like Hershey’s Syrup. Pure chocolate flavor was pretty powerful. Smooth flavor until the end, slightly malty flavor. Started to get slightly too sweet for me towards the end though so I wouldn’t be able to drink multiple bottles. Perfect that it was in a sampler pack!

Samuel Adams Black & Brew Coffee Stout

20111120-151815.jpg

Just purchased the Samuel Adams Winter Sampler case and this was the first I grabbed. Strong coffee flavor but for some reason it slightly reminds me of soy sauce, possibly slightly salty? We can’t figure it out really. Definitely drinkable but prob can’t drink more than a few in one sitting. From the bottle… Our coffee stout is a full-bodied, rich stout that supports the espresso character of the coffee. We use 1.5 pounds of Sumatran coffee per barrel. Rich  [ Read More ]

Samuel Adams Latitude 48 IPA

IMG_1556_90

Yes, it’s time for another Samuel Adams beer that will be served at Hops and Barley during this year’s Epcot International Food and Wine Festival. Latitude 48 IPA is brewed year-round and is Sam Adams’ standard India Pale Ale. I like the idea behind this one; it’s called Latitude 48 because the three hop varieties used in this beer are from Germany, England, and America. These hops all grow around the 48th latitude of the northern hemisphere and Sam Adams  [ Read More ]

Samuel Adams Cherry Wheat

IMG_1474

Another Samuel Adams brew found at Hops and Barley during the 2011 Epcot Food and Wine Festival, Cherry Wheat is an interesting beer. The name pretty much describes the beer; it’s a wheat beer with dried cherries added. A beer with fruit isn’t particularly uncommon (Abita’s Purple Haze includes raspberries, for example), but the addition of cherries is somewhat unique. It looks like a fairly typical wheat ale; perhaps a slight bit darker than usual. Take a sniff of this  [ Read More ]

The Lack of Beer Seminars at the 2011 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival

IMG_3564

Alright, I get it. It’s the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, not the Food and Beer Festival. However, there are over 100 of what Disney refers to as “Wine/Beverage” Seminars at the 2011 festival. Out of these 100+ sessions throughout the entire length of the festival, a grand total of one  focuses on beer. I hope you beer lovers are available October 4, 2011 at noon, because your one chance to participate in a beer seminar is at that date and time. Samuel  [ Read More ]

Samuel Adams Cream Stout

IMG_1470

Over at the Hops and Barley booth, the home of Samuel Adams for the 2011 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, one of the eight Samuel Adams varieties will be Cream Stout. Cream Stout is a very dark brown, almost black beer with a milk chocolate colored head; hold it up to the light and you can see some lighter brown tones around the edges. This stout has a roasted scent with a slight bit of chocolate mixed in. The  [ Read More ]
