Cusquena

Cusquena

While on a trip to Peru in May, we (Pat and Jenn) were able to sample the local Peruvian beer, Cusquena. It’s a Peruvian beer that is popular even with the locals. It’s nothing spectacular, just a typical pale lager.  However, after hiking for hours upon days in Peru with deprived oxygen on our way to Machu Picchu, seeing this bottle with the gold foil was like heaven at each stop.  Not sure if I (Pat) enjoyed it so much  [ Read More ]

Frozen Kirin in Japan Pavilion

The wonder of Frozen Beer

On my last trip to Disney World, I got a chance to try out a new-ish beer offering in the Japan pavilion at Epcot, Frozen Kirin. When I first heard about it, I had imagined a beer slushie. How awesome would that be?! Alas, it was not to be. The Frozen Kirin was a bit of a disappointment. It was just a Kirin with some frozen beer foam on top. When you order it, there is a special machine that  [ Read More ]

Up and Coming Italy Pavilion Beer Program

IMG_3259

If you haven’t checked out the craft beer selection in the Italy pavilion lately, you are really missing out on some great new offerings.  Wait…craft beer?  In the Italy Pavilion?  Yes, you heard us right!  While down in Disney World for the Food & Wine festival, we were able to get an overview of the Italy beer program from Eric Bandauski. Eric works for the Patina group (who runs all of the Italy restaurants) and is directing the beer program  [ Read More ]

Beers and Ears on Main Street Podcast

Brewer's Collection 6oz

Jason, one of our excellent beer drinking authors, also runs the Main Street Podcast all about Disney Parks. He asked if any of us would be interested in joining him to talk about the Epcot Food and Wine Festival. Jenn, Patrick, and Scott all were available to have a beer and talk about Food and Wine with a special emphasis on the beer. Here’s the link to Episode 6; you can also find the Main Street Podcast on iTunes and Stitcher!

Unibroue La Fin du Monde

Unibroue La Fin Du Monde

Before heading to a Sox game at Fenway, I had a chance to stop by a new bar in Cambridge, The Tap Room. Lots of beers available, over 30 on tap! The first beer I tried was La Fin du Monde brewed by Unibroue of Canada. Scott reviewed this beer previously, check out his review here. La Fin du Monde is a Triple-style golden ale with a 9.0% ABV. I was in love after the first taste. It was very  [ Read More ]

“33″ Export

33Export

I was recently out to dinner at a local Vietnamese restaurant and was pleasantly surprised to see that they had a decent selection of beers on the menu. “33″ Export immediately caught my eye. It’s a Vietnamese lager that has a nice bright gold color. I enjoyed the beer with a nice bowl of Pho, it was light enough to compliment the saltiness of the soup. It really wasn’t anything special though, it reminded me of Amstel Light. It’s not  [ Read More ]

Brewer’s Collection Booth at Epcot’s 2011 Food & Wine Festival

Brewer's Collection 6oz

Next up for Patrick and I to review is the Brewer’s Collection Booth at Food & Wine!  Instead of attempting to taste every beer in one sitting, we tried to spread out the tastings throughout the weekend.  Somehow though, there was one visit to the booth where we actually did try them all…again!   Minus the Kolsch…that story is at the bottom of the review. (from left to right) Hövels ~Patrick: This one surprised me. From its appearance, it looked  [ Read More ]

Craft Beers Booth at Food & Wine….and Kona Pipeline Porter

IMG_9384

After a fun filled trip during opening weekend of the Food & Wine Festival, as well as both successfully completing the Wine & Dine Half Marathon, Patrick and I decided to thoroughly reward ourselves with a complete beer tasting at both the Brewer’s Collection Booth and the Craft Beers Booth. With the Brewer’s Booth complete (minus the allusive Kolsch), we set our sights on the final booth of the adventure.  Obviously we’re posting reviews in reverse order…the Brewer’s Booth post  [ Read More ]
